Real-life Experience Letter
INTRODUCTION
Real-life experience (RLE) letter certifies one’s gender identity and transgender identity, and that one is recommended by their doctor to live in the gender one identifies. This is also an important part of their gender-affirming care. Like any other medical certificates, RLE letter is a formal legal document. Carrying this letter is not equivalent to an update of HKID gender marker.
RLE letter is often useful in communication with schools, workplace, etc. regarding gender-affirming and/or gender-friendly and/or gender-neutral arrangements, including but not limited to

Clothing

Address, e.g. honorifics, pronouns, names

Grouping

Restrooms and/or changing rooms

Presenting a copy of both Chinese and English versions of RLE letter often helps wit the communication. Please inquire about the details with your doctor.

上述人士是有性別不安的跨性別女性，由（第一次會診日期）起己於本診所接受治療，而有關治療的一個重要環節是按其所屬意的性別角色作真實生活體驗，例如被稱為（女士），在社會上被視作女性對待，以及使用相關的指定性別設施。請支持上列病人的治療和過渡安排，並在可行情況下給予便利。

The above-named is a transwoman with gender dysphoria and has been treated in our clinic since (Date of 1st appointment). Real life experiencing in this desired gender role, such as being addressed as Ms., being treated as a female individual in social context and using gender-specific facilities is an important part of the treatment. Please kindly facilitate the treatment and transition of the patient if possible.
